AR2009 Photos

Postby ChrisN » Thu Jul 23, 2009 8:08 am

Remember how we all took lots of photos of each other and the scenery?

We also talked about setting up some way of sharing all these priceless memories of the AR2009 meet and ride-outs.

Can I suggest we all open a free photo sharing account at the FlickR website. I've already opened one and posted a couple of photos just to find out what's possible. If we all join we could set up our own Group for sharing images with each other and friends. Even the basic account allows you to tag the photo locations to a map! - very useful. It automatically adds the location so detailed titling isn't essential. Upgrade to a Pro version is only ?20/year but we can discuss if this is beneficial to us much further down the line.

You'll need a little time on the FlickR learning curve first, but let me know what you all think.

I haven't had time to upload mine yet but may well do over the weekend.
Chris, is there a username and password for the Flikr account? If you PM it to me I'll upload some of the good ones. If I get time I'll also look into the best way to share videos - an ftp site or something.

Apologies Tony, didn't see your post in General. I've now linked it to this thread.

FlickR's free basic account allows 100MB which is not bad for a start. Their Pro account which cost about ?20/year allows unlimited uploads and access to original file sizes. That's why I suggested we start with the basic and then upgrade later.

If others are already paying for accounts elsewhere I can understand the reluctance to go for FlickR and this idea maybe won't get off the ground.

Again more feedback from the AR2009 mob would be helpful.

KR1S: my original post suggests we ALL open basic accounts and then set up a Group within FlickR. This way there are no security issues and possible abuse of a single account. Take a good look at FlickR - they allow video sharing too so everything would be in one place.

FlickR sounds like a plan to me. Will investigate after the weekend as I'm away for father-i-l's birthday.

Sorry Chris, I misread it
I've got a Flikr account so I'll upload over the weekend if the hotel internet is quick enough.

I don't have a Flikr account yet (I use Snapfish) but will investigate when I get onto a computer that's a bit faster than mine...

Meanwhile I thought I might upload the odd one to here not least because I like the picture.

I looked at Flickr a while back - there was something about the site that annoyed me. ANyhow, I'm a longtime happy Smugmug user, and here's a link to this year's photos (now that I have them captioned).

Some are even geotagged, if the camera got a fix before I snapped the pic.

Great photos :D

Apologies as I have yet to sort mine. I've been spending my spare time editing some of Tony's footage into a short video which I'll make available soon.

If you edit out all the bits with smoke, I bet it will be a very short video :-)
