Top of Stelvio, 7th August 2010:

Awesome, piles of snow where vendors have cleared parking area at top, very warm and pleasant, we arrived about 4.00pm, came up the Umbrail and just where it meets Stelvio (About 2500m I think) we came to the snow line.

I have never chucked a bike around with snow at edge of road before - Brilliant!

Yeah, fantastic isn't it? You want to try the passes mid June... (or even early May in the case of the Grossglockner), particularly the Nufenen and the Col de l'Iseran : 20 feet high walls of snow each side. Like riding through a tunnel. And so quiet.
