Stelvio 2008

Conditions of passes and roads, as well as tolls and opening dates etc

Nothing since all the talk last year.

Snowcat tracks again today - and just about the most snow that I've ever seen on top - Pirovano's webcam is close to being covered.

No news is good news.
Right about the snow levels, it's amazing.

In front of the lamppost and the 'obelisc' there must be at least 2 meters of snow , and the tracks of the snowcat , or whatever it is , hardly makes a dent in it , so the snow must be pretty compact .
let's have a guessing game for when the pass will be declared 'Open ' .
I say : 15 of June . anybody else ?

In fact if you look closely you can see tunnels under the snow where GS riders have gone under rather than over already.

Nope, they're doing the Gavia, which is even wurse.

I'm betting at least one of the mountainstages wil be cancelled, or shortened, maybe the clibm towards the Kronplatz.

Grtz, Philip!

I think they are just clearing a path to protect the buildings from water damage when the snow melts .

SIGNIFICANT melting. The windows in the building on the left were blocked by that snowbank a week or so ago.
