How effective are the FJR's panniers at keeping your stuff dry?
Fairly dry, rather damp or completely sodden?

i use Givi, never taken the FJR ones out their box. but never heard any complaints about them. try a search of the FJR forum if ya like.

I had the similar panniers on my Fazer 1000 with probaly 10,000 miles covered in all weathers and never had any problems with leaks

I have had no problems with my 05 FJR, everything has stayed completely dry in the last 60,000 miles including some pretty heavy storms coming back from Spain last year

Well that is encouraging. We are packing now and will set off at 5.45 tomorrow morning, stopping overnight in Koblenz (because we are wimps ) before reaching southern Austria Tuesday afternoon

Thanks to everybody, we have found out a lot of useful stuff - especially things like not passing a petrol pump unless you KNOW where the next one is. We have also found out our trip is a bit early but I am sure we will have a great time anyway.

Well we can now certify that, after about 5 hours of torrential rain on day two (Wednesday May 12) of our trip across Germany down to Southern Austria, the luggage kept our stuff completely dry , which is more than can be said for my gloves

Yes I do need to get that sorted out soon - a bit worried about boring everyone to death - we took a GPS tagger with us too so it could easily get very tedious.

These have never leaked.

Yet.

In the final analysis, nothing is waterproof, only water resistant. The degree of resistance varies

They feel a bit odd at first with the "Live long and prosper" finger position, but they pack small, go on easily and are designed to be operated with a gloved hand.

Mine live in my tank bag.

I bought today a new rear bag to my new Bus, Bags-Connection?s Racebag. Fits well on my bike, should be waterproof(resistant..), had earlier their other version Rearbag on my Honda, and I have found it very comfortable on touring. I paid 120 euros which is quite reasonable, I think their "official" price was 179 euros.
