Fuel prices Austria

Postby tim » Mon Aug 31, 2009 10:57 pm

they introduced a law recently that allows fuel station to only in crease thier pump prices once a day. So what happens now is the stations increase the prices by about 7cents/liter on the morning, and gradually decrease as the day goes on.

My advice is obvioulsy to not wait until tomorrow morning to fill up, but to fill up in the evening if you can.

Also, you may have noticed the very similar prices of Normal (91octane) and Super (95octane). This is because (according to a number of petrol station owners I've spoken to) they are - Austria wide - in fact both 95 octane. Cuts down on the delivery costs, I'm told.

Prices now around Eur1.17/1.12 for Super per litre

i dont really understand that, as i read it , they put it up in the morning and bring it down through out the day :?: :!: , does not make sense.

so the prices change at various times of the day :!: :!: :!:

Yep, but they did that anyway, every couple of hours or so, I'd guess, but only up and down a little bit.

Now, they are forced to have only one upward change and so "overestimate" the price in the morning to give themselves a buffer, then they'll drop the price gradually to compete depending on sales (and the prices of local competition). Bloody typically poorly thought-out solution by tha Austrian government.

Now the filling stations are complaining that they are forced to keep one staff on early when no-one fills up, and then with the need to employ more staff in the afternoon, or face long queues. That's a problem of thier own making as far as I'm concerned.

Oddly enough, substitute the government of your choice in place of "Austrian" and it still holds true.

Coincidence?

I think not!

Sounds like that well intentioned law needs amending so that there is only 1 price change a day.
Bloody stupid petrol station operators

As you say, it is well-intentioned, but the people who decide really are naive. I suppose (hope) they'll have to do something along those lines, then after 18 months they'll revoke the law anyway. It wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks for the heads-up

Fits perfectly into my habits. :D
Always fill up last thing to not get slowed down the next morning.
Cheers
