Hotel or B&B near the Gerlos?

Hotel or B&B near the Gerlos?

I want to stay up in that area one night. I can see hotels in Zell am Ziller, which would do. Any recommendations in that area? Karza?

Hi fahr_side, when I am visiting in that area, I normally ride to stay the night in Simonhof, Hinterthal.

Its in the middle of the Dienten Sattel, between Saalfelden and Bischofshofen, and the Dienten is one hell of a stretch by bike. Did it last week 2 times...I havent any favourite place near Krimml, dont feel that area interesting to stay the night there..

Go to Simonhof, girls will take a good care of you, and there is also excellent dinner every evening, you will love the place. Give my best regards to Margit (owner) if ya go there...

I'm planning like this:

Arabba > Giau > Staller > Iselsberg
Iselsberg > Grossglockner > Dientner from east > Gerloss > ?
? > Silvretta > Walenstadt

I wanted to do less distance on the leg out of Arabba to let the wife gawk at the scenery a bit, more stops. It just evens out the days a bit to stay near the Gerloss. Thanks for the advice though. :notworthy:

To ride from Hinterthal to Gerlos doesnt take a long time, I think it takes about an hour if you dont speed a lot...

About your route: my opinion is that Staller isnt worth to go, instead take from Cortina to Paso Tre Croci and then to Misurina lake. From Misurina you can visit up on Zrei Zinnen, great scenery and also a nice ride.

And when you come to Austrian side and to Sillian, just after Sillian to left starts the Pustertaler H?henstrasse. A scenery road goes from tiny village to another one up on the mountain and gives you very beautiful scenery and plenty of beautiful villages. Average speed is about 40-50 kmh, so it isnt for riding experiences but if the weather is fine, go for it..

Misurina is high on the "impress the wife with scenery" list.

There's a bar at the north end that has seating on a deck out over the lake. It's almost always full, but worth trying.

And the view from the top of the toll road to the Drei Zinnen is one of the best in the Alps that doesn't involve a helicopter.

Ferienhof Gerlos at Gerlos 123, Gerlos 05284 5229 is the best place to be.

Book into Arabba (no night life, but (relatively) cheap), or Corvara in Badia, which has some night life, but is more expensive. They're only about 6kms apart as the crow flies, and not that much further as the road wiggles. Both are in the middle of some of the best roads that were ever kissed by motorcycle tires. 3 nights is a good amount - ride in on day 1, get 2 full days of riding around and finish it on the 4th day riding out. There's actually enough in the area to keep you busy for 4 days.

sorry Michael missed this, yeah it will be a max of 3 nights there, so should be able to see a good bit of the area, plus should be heading out to the west from there. thats the bit of the trip im un sure about my route. dont want to go down by the big Italian lakes. but have done the Furks area a couple of times . was thinking about heading down towards interlaken and going over by Gstaad area {seen it on a cycle race yesterday looks good} although this means doing the Grand St Bernards or Chamonix again , i just cant make my mind up as im hoping to leave the alps viadown Briancon way.
